The bigger picture

Why it happens

SIBO happens when bacteria that normally live in the large intestine build up in the small intestine. It's rarely the whole story. Slowed gut motility, low stomach acid, past food poisoning, stress, certain medications, and previous surgeries can all set the stage. That's why we look beyond the bacteria to what allowed them to overgrow in the first place.

Our approach

How we approach SIBO

We look beyond the bacteria to what allowed them to overgrow.

Listen first: a full history of your symptoms, diet, stress, medications and what you've already tried.

Test, don't guess: a breath test can help show whether SIBO is likely and what type. When it's useful, we look at broader gut function too.

Build a plan in phases: targeted nutrition, carefully chosen supplements or herbal support, and lifestyle shifts, adjusted as you go.

Support what comes next: we focus on the underlying factors, like motility, digestion and stress, to help lower the chance of symptoms returning.

Testing

Testing we may use

SIBO breath testing (lactulose or glucose), and comprehensive stool analysis when the picture calls for it.
